‘I Will Return As A Man’ – Woman Who Attempted Suicide On Her Birthday

A woman in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, who tried to commit suicide on her birthday, said she would “return as a man” in her next life. The woman, Dorothy Edet, was found unconscious in her apartment in Uyo on Sunday morning after taking some poisonous substances, apparently, according to multiple posts on Facebook from people familiar with the incident. Rescuers, prompted by her suicide note which she posted on Facebook, broke her door, rushed her to the hospital where she was revived. Akwa Ibom State Government has advised all Street traders and operators of illegal markets especially around the plaza area, and other highbrow areas to relocate to designated trading places on or before February 1, 2021, or be prepared to face the wrath of the law. The trial of the Deeper Life High School sexual abuse case commenced on Wednesday in Uyo, with the magistrate court holding its proceedings under closed-door. Two students of the school, both of them 13 years old, accused of sexually molesting a fellow student, an 11-year-old boy, are being prosecuted by the police. 23 Year Old Woman Jailed For Selling Day Old Baby In Uyo

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has secured another conviction as 23 year old Esther Ita Udoakang gets sentenced to two years imprisonment for child trafficking. The suspect pleaded guilty to a one count charge of selling a day-old baby to one Princess Tonymass, who is still at large; an act which is contrary to Section 21 of the Trafficking in Persons (Prohibition) Enforcement and Administration Act 2015. Delivering the judgment at the Federal High Court, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the presiding Judge, Justice M. I. Sanni frowned against such an act and subsequently sentenced her to 2 years imprisonment with an option of a fine to the tune of N400,000.00 (four hundred thousand naira, only). Minister Fashola Accuses GenCos Of Plotting To Sabotage Power Supply

Babatunde Fashola, Minister of Power, Works and Housing, on Monday accused power generating companies in the country of planning to disrupt energy supply to sabotage government’s efforts to revamp the economy through improved electrification of the country. He said he was aware of the clandestine meetings and nocturnal moves by some of the operators to disrupt power supply for political capital. He spoke at the 25th Monthly Meeting with operators in the power sector hosted by Ibom Power at the Ibom Hall, IBB Way, Uyo, Akwa Ibom. Akwa Ibom Pays N300m Hospital Bill For Victims Of Collapsed Church Building

The Akwa Ibom State government says it has spent a total of N300 million as medical bills for victims of the Reigners Bible Church building collapse that occurred December 2016. The state Health Commissioner, Dominic Ukpong, disclosed this on Thursday in Uyo, the state capital, while presenting cheques to the proprietors of the various hospitals that assisted in the treatment of the victims. News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the church building collapsed during the bishopric consecration service of the founder of the church, Apostle Akan Weeks, with Gov. The Police Command in Akwa Ibom says it has arrested seven suspects over their alleged involvement in child trafficking. They said that the government had not officially informed them of the proposed project. Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority Lowers Minimum Visibility For 18 Airports

The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) in conjunction with the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has lowered minimum visibility for takeoff and landing of flights for 18 airports which have improved navigational aids, including Performance Based Navigation (PBN) and other equipment that enhance visibility during inclement weather. This new minimum visibility will take effect from thursday. Before now, the average minimum visibility was 800 metres below which flights were not allowed to operate to the airports, but now flights can operate when visibility is about 150 meters, depending on the available navigational aids. Samuel was arraigned by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) before Honourable Justice Okon A. Okon of High Court 8, Uyo, on an eight-count charge of obtaining by false pretence, contrary to and punishable under Section 419 of the Criminal Code Act of the Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.
