Authorities in China have reportedly made anal COVID-19 swabs compulsory for all foreign travelers arriving in the country. As part of the new travel requirement, there will be testing hubs in Beijing and Shanghai airports, the outlet reported. Li Tongzeng, a respiratory disease medic, said that the anal swabs are better because virus traces stay longer in fecal samples than they do in the nose or throat, state media reported. The institute located just miles from Covid's ground zero has been subjected to scrutiny since the virus emerged. The World Health Organisation released a report this week exonerating the lab, saying the lab wasn't responsible for Covid-19 origins, but the US and the UK  have branded the WHO's report a "whitewash" after new revelations about the work of Chinese scientists led by Dr Shi Zhengli, months before the ...

A new virus is threatening the Chinese population, months after the COVID-19 outbreak began in Wuhan in late 2019. The Severe Fever with Thrombocytopenia Syndrome (SFTS) virus is transmitted via tick bites, and has caused seven deaths in the country thus far. SFTS is a viral haemorrhagic fever caused by a “phlebovirus”, which is a species that falls under the bunyaviruses. It is transmitted via the Haemaphysalis longicornis, an Asian tick commonly found in the Americas, Asia, Africa, and the Mediterranean region. While the tick is the main vector of the virus, it may also be spread from person to person through blood, wounds or mucous. These ticks feed on the blood of warm-blooded animals, and infections tend to increase in the summertime. Symptoms of FSTS include fever, thro...

'This realises our worst fears,' he told Sydney radio 2GB. 'Now we could slip back into a second wave like other countries have.' Victoria's Chief Health Officer Brett Sutton said it was unlikely the man contracted the virus at the protest because it was too soon for him to start showing symptoms...
