FIFA Suspend Senegal star Pape Gueye from football as part of probe into midfielder’s transfer from Watford to Marseille

FIFA have reportedly suspended Marseille midfielder Pape Gueye as part of their investigation into his move to the Ligue 1 club from Watford in 2020. The suspension means that Gueye, who is currently at the Africa Cup of Nations with Senegal, cannot take part in any competition until further notice. The 22-year-old came off the bench for Senegal's 1-0 win over Zimbabwe on Monday but was not in the squad for their 0-0 draw against Guinea on Friday. 'There were problems between Watford and Marseille on a transfer [and] FIFA has suspended him,' Senegal manager Aliou Cisse said. Gueye joined the Hornets in the summer of 2020 on a free transfer from the French side Le Havre, but was sold to Marseille just 17 hours later. Despite his incredibly short stint as Watford player, the...

West Ham bounce back to dominate Watford

West Ham bounced back from Emmanuel Dennis' third-minute opener to ease to a dominant 4-1 win at Watford and cut the gap to the top four to four points. Dennis' self-made stunner (4) - his eighth goal of the season - appeared to answer any questions over whether the Hornets would be rusty in their first game for 18 days. But the bright performance the goal encouraged never materialised and the Hammers were soon in full control to raise the pressure on Claudio Ranieri, whose side have now lost their last five games. Said Benrahma's warning shot against the woodwork served as anything but as the home side hung on against mounting West Ham pressure, but eventually their defences were finally breached as Tomas Soucek fired in Jarrod Bowen's slide-rule pass to level (27). ...

Manchester United blames Watford for Solskjaer’s sack

Manchester United football director, John Murtough has blamed Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s sack on their 4-1 loss to Watford earlier in the season. He also insisted the Red Devils’ board did not approach another manager before sacking Solskjaer and expected the Norwegian to turn things around. Solskjaer was shown the exit door at Old Trafford in November after an embarrassing 4-1 defeat to Watford at Vicarage Road that came after a series of bad results. “After the promising early-season results, things went off plan. As a club, we felt Ole had earned the right to be given the chance to turn things round, but didn’t get a reaction after the international break, and the Watford game made it clear change was needed “Out of respect for Ole, we did not approach other managers before he...

They always made me cry – Emmanuel Dennis Reveals why he stopped supporting Arsenal

Watford and Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Dennis has explained why he had to give up supporting Arsenal. Dennis said that the Gunners drove him to tears. The 24-year-old has scored seven goals for Watford in the Premier League this season and was on the score sheet during Friday’s agonising 2-1 defeat at Brentford. The Nigeria International grew up supporting Arsenal and was a big fan of former Gunners midfielder, Cesc Fabregas. He told Sky Sports: “I used to be an Arsenal fan. I like Cesc Fabregas. “But I’m no more an Arsenal fan. I was so much into Arsenal sometimes I could cry when they lose. That wasn’t good for me. “So I was like, ‘nah, I’m going to stick to myself and don’t care much because it’s not good for my health’. It’s just me and myself right...

Manchester United manager, Ralf Rangnick, has identified two areas his team must improve. Rangnick, who gave his first press conference as Man United boss on Friday, said the Red Devils must improve on what they will do as a team when they have the ball and when the opponent has it. The German stated this ahead of Man United’s Premier League tie with Crystal Palace on Sunday. “I saw the games against Liverpool and Manchester City, at Chelsea even though we won a point there, and even against teams like Watford, the team didn’t have control. “They didn’t have control over the game, and this is something we will try to achieve. “Of course, this has to do with what do we do when we have the ball ourselves, and what are we going to do when the other team has the ball. "It was a difficult game from the beginning, not easy from the first minute, and it was not our best day but the most important thing is we got three points. All the other stuff is better to forget." If there are more questions left to be asked about Solskjaer's future at Old Trafford, they will now be raised after a fourth defeat from five against a Watford team who had not won at home since the opening day of the season. United could easily have been behind inside six minutes after Scott McTominay's clumsy foul on Josh King gave Watford an early penalty, but Kiko Femenia's goal on the rebound from Ismaila Sarr's saved spot-kick was ruled out for encroachment, and Sarr was again denied by David de Gea from the retake.
