David James names club to win Premier League title this season

Former England goalkeeper David James has named Chelsea as the club to win the English Premier League title this season. He believes Chelsea is the ‘team to beat’ ahead of title rivals Liverpool and Manchester City who are currently above the Blues in the league table. Chelsea won nine of their first 12 league games to move ahead of defending champions Man City and 2020 winners Liverpool but have dropped points at home to Manchester United at the end of last month and suffered a 3-2 defeat to West Ham last week to fall behind their title rivals. “I’m glad Chelsea won today [against Leeds] because they are the team to beat for me,” ex-goalkeeper James told Stadium Astro. “I’ve actually tipped them not to be top of the table come Christmas based on the games they’re got comin...

Champions League: Real Madrid vs Chelsea ‘most likely’ Round of 16 tie

Chelsea have almost a one in three probability of drawing Real Madrid, when the draw for the Champions League Round of 16 is conducted on Monday, according to MisterChip. The Blues, who are the current holders of the trophy, could only finish second in their group, following a disappointing 3-3 draw at Zenit. Thomas Tuchel’s men will now be paired against top European opponents in the next round. Liverpool, on the other hand, have a marginally higher chance of being paired against Villarreal or Inter Milan. Manchester United and Manchester City, who finished top of their groups, have a slightly higher chance of playing Atletico Madrid or Inter Milan next. Champions League: Man United to face tough draw in round of 16

Manchester United might not still find an easy draw in the Champions League round of 16 despite finishing top of Group F. The Red Devils were held to a 1-1draw by Young Boys at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. Ralf Rangnick’s men opened scoring in the 9th minute through Mason Greenwood in the dead rubber game with United having already secured their passage to the last 16 as group winners. Rangnick fielded a heavily rotated side and they got off to a good start with Greenwood acrobatically firing the home side ahead. Champions League: They don’t Obey Instructions – Rangnick Slams Man Utd Players

Ralf Rangnick has slammed Manchester United players for not obeying instructions during their 1-1 with Young Boys in the Champions League on Wednesday. The German said it was annoying that the players did not play exactly the way he told them to play against the Swedes with the players ignoring his instructions to play more direct football. Manchester United had booked their place in last 16 of the Champions League as group winners. So the German manager decided to name a heavily rotated side at Old Trafford on Wednesday night. Mason Greenwood fired United ahead in the first half but the Red Devils gave possession away to the visitors on the edge of their own box just before half-time, with Fabian Rieder curling in a superb effort to secure a 1-1 draw. Chelsea suffer damaging draw at Zenit to surrender top spot

Magomed Ozdoev's 94th-minute screamer consigned a much-changed Chelsea to a damaging 3-3 draw against Zenit St Petersburg as they surrendered top spot in Champions League Group H in Russia on Wednesday. Timo Werner scored twice as Thomas Tuchel's side thought they had survived a scare in a thrilling contest in Russia, but Ozdoev pulled a rabbit out of the hat deep into stoppage time to ensure Juventus finished as group winners by virtue of their 1-0 win over Malmo in Turin. Werner gave the visitors the lead inside 90 seconds when he converted from close range but quickfire goals from Claudinho (39) and Sardar Azmoun (41) in sub-zero temperatures gave Zenit a half-time lead. Chelsea had been the architects of their own downfall with their lapse defending which will have infuria...

The Blues will then face Arsenal, Liverpool, Aston Villa, Tottenham and defending champions Manchester City before October starts. Merson told Starsport: “Chelsea won the Champions League and are fancied to push for the title. But look at Chelsea’s fixtures and you can see what they’re up against it. “After their opener against Crystal Palace, who will be trying to impress a new manager in Patrick Vieira, it’s brutal. “They have to play Arsenal and Liverpool before...

Italy will now play the winner between England and Denmark in the Euro 2020 final on Sunday. “It doesn’t matter who has gone through here because I believe England can beat both these sides,” Ferdinand told BBC Sport post-match. “I just feel no one can compete with us right now. The confidence we have got… People might say I am getting carried away but I don’t care. “From what I have seen, England are the better team, the best team and they beat...

‘Pogba had been player of the tournament’ – Man Utd star lit up Euro 2020 before France crashed out, says Rooney

The midfielder could not add to his international haul after the World Cup winners were knocked out in the last 16, despite some electric performances Paul Pogba was the star of Euro 2020 before France were eliminated, says Wayne Rooney, who hopes that the midfielder can replicate his international form at Manchester United. Pogba was one of the most consistent performers for Didier Deschamps' side as they topped Group F against rivals Portugal and Germany in the tournament's early stages. But the World Cup holders were handed a shock exit in the last 16 by neighbours Switzerland in a dramatic penalty shootout finale, to leave Pogba high and dry - a departure that came far too soon for what Rooney considered a player of the tournament contender

George feels the winner of the tournament will be decided in that game. “That’s a tough one but I tip Spain or Italy for the title. “They have won it in the past and the experience is there – which I believe will play a key role in terms of determining the winner. “However, any team can spring up surprises and win. Italy Beat Belgium in Thriller to Reach Semi-final

Italy were deserved winners after producing a confident display to beat Belgium 2-1 in a tense Euro 2020 quarter-final in Munich. Nicolo Barella's opener and Lorenzo Insigne's stunning strike opened up a two-goal lead before Romelu Lukaku equalised before half-time in a thrilling contest. Lukaku did come close to an equaliser and with Kevin De Bruyne on the pitch, Belgium were always a danger to Roberto Mancini's side but the second goal just would not come. Italy can look forward to a semi-final showdown with Spain at Wembley, while Belgium are left to wonder whether the moment has passed for the so-called golden generation.

Euros win with England would top three Premier League title triumphs for Sterling

The Blues forward has collected nine trophies at club level, but says international honours would mean more than any of those achievements Raheem Sterling claims European Championship glory with England would mean more to him than the three Premier League titles he has secured with Manchester City. Across a six-year spell at the Etihad Stadium, the 26-year-old forward has collected nine winners' medals - including four Carabao Cup triumphs and an FA Cup win. The domestic game has been conquered, but Sterling says international honours - ending a long barren run for a success-starved nation - would be a career highlight.

Tuchel told to change decision over Chelsea transfer

Former Liverpool captain, Graeme Souness, has urged Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, to change his decision and keep Billy Gilmour at Stamford Bridge beyond this summer transfer window. Gilmour enjoyed a fabulous end to last season under Tuchel and delivered another remarkable display in Scotland’s goalless draw against England at Euro 2020 last Friday. The 20-year-old midfielder has made 22 first-team appearances for Chelsea, but he is now close to joining Norwich City on loan for the 2021/22 season in order to get regular playing time. But Souness believes Tuchel should keep Gilmour at the West London club in order to improve his development, adding that the youngster can challenge Jorginho for a place in Chelsea’s midfield. “I would personally keep him [Billy Gilmour] at ...
