The Authorities in Zambia have shut down a Chinese restaurant in the capital, Lusaka for reportedly refusing locals entry into the eatery. The Latian restaurant closed entry to blacks, allowing access to only Chinese for reasons related to the novel coronavirus. The discriminatory practice rattled Lusaka’s Mayor, Miles Sampa, who on Monday in the company of his director of health moved to close the restaurant indefinitely. Speaking to journalists after the closure, Sampa bemoaned the actions of the Chinese eatery as sickening, adding that the decision to close down the facility was because they abrogated laws under the country’s Food and Health Act including trading without license and sell...

Zambian President Wants U.S. Ambassador Out Of The Country For Defending Gay Couple

Zambian President Edgar Lungu wants the U.S. ambassador to leave the country after the diplomat criticized the African state for sentencing a gay couple to 15 years behind bars for having a consensual relationship. “We have complained officially to the American government, and we are waiting for their response because we don’t want such people in our midst,” Lungu said Sunday in comments broadcast on state-owned ZNBC TV. “We want him gone.” U.S. Ambassador Daniel Foote said last month that he was “personally horrified” after the high court sentenced the two men and called on the government to reconsider laws that punish minority groups. A high court in Zambia has sentenced two men to 15 years in jail after they were caught having sex in 2017. Zambia is a conservative country and same-sex relationships are frowned upon and homosexual acts are illegal. The court heard that Japhet Chataba and Steven Samba booked themselves into a lodge in Kapiri Mposhi, in central Zambia, where they committed the act. While they were in the room, one of the workers peeped through an open window and saw them having sex. The female worker then alerted her colleagues whom she invited to the window to catch a glimpse of two men. The two men were convicted last year by the Kapiri Mposhi Magistrates’ Court but they took the case to the high court. But high court judge Charles Zulu refused to review the verdict of the lower court ...
