Trapped $85 million: Reps ask Emirates to stop planned flight suspension, summons Emefiele, others
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, has asked Emirates Airline to stop the planned suspension of flights operations to Nigeria over trapped funds.
In a statement by the Clerk of the House, Yahaya Danzaria on Friday, the leadership of the House will meet with the federal government and the representatives of the airline on a yet to be determined date.
It would be recalled that Emirates announced that it will suspend flight activities in Nigeria over $85 million fund trapped in Nigeria.
According to the Clerk, the Speaker has requested the Chairman House Committee on Aviation, Nnoli Nnaji, and House of Representatives Management to immediately set a date for a meeting with all Stakeholders in the Aviation sector and the Executive Arm of government to find urgent solutions to the issues in contention.
The House, therefore, summoned the Minister for Finance, Budget and National Planning, Dr. Zainab Ahmed; Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele; Special Adviser to the President on Ease of Doing Business; and Minister for Aviation.
Others expected at the meeting include: Director General of Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA); Country Representative of IATA; Emirate Country Manager; Chairmen of House Committees on Banking & Currency, and Finance, respectively.
