World Cup 2022: Man United’s Ralf Rangnick names country to win tournament in Qatar
Manchester United interim boss, Ralf Rangnick has predicted the winner of the forthcoming 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
The German believes his country, Germany and England are the favourites to win the trophy later this year.
He, however, overlooked Cristiano Ronaldo and his country, Portugal.
The group-stage draw of the football highest event was conducted in Doha, Qatar on Friday.
And England, Rangnick’s favourite to win the tournament, was pitted against the US, Iran and either Scotland, Wales or Ukraine.
Ronaldo and Portugal are in Group H, which also has Ghana, Uruguay and South Korea.
However, the German coach reluctantly mentioned his country as one of the favourites, but completely overlooked the star-studded Portugal.
“It’s difficult to say. I think England has a top team, they are definitely a team who could play a vital role. I also think Germany, with Hansi Flick in charge, are in a good position now, once again,” he told MUFC official website.
“I think an advantage for England could be even that the World Cup is being played in the middle of the season.
“The last time England won the World Cup was back in 1966. I remember it was my first World Cup, I still remember,” he added.
The Manchester United boss, who is fighting to qualify the Red Devils for a place in the Champions League next season, said he was eight years old when the final game was played at Wembley between West Germany and England, being the last time the Three Lions lifted the trophy.
